In 1925 Moscow, Professor Philip and Dr. Ivan bring stray Sharikov into the lab and remake him with a human brain and body. Sharikov crashes into flats and streets with vulgar swagger and survivalist cunning.
Respectability, the mayor, gamblers, landladies, and a minstrel are dragged into his chaos. Under the comedy, the play asks what makes a human — and what happens when a dog learns human appetite and hypocrisy.
